With all major mobile phone manufacturers already having Android handsets in their portfolio, Videocon has also joined the fray by launching the A20 and A30. The Indian company has already had feature phones since the past few years, but it is only now that it has launched its own smartphones. Both the GSM handsets support dual-SIM dual standby. 3G is supported, although it is very likely that only one SIM can support the newer mobile network standard, while the other can work in 2G. While the A20 runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), the A30 has Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Bluetooth, GPS, and dual cameras are some of the other common features, although there are certain differences in them as well.
Specifications of the Videocon A20:
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
- Dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) with dual standby.

- 4" capacitive touchscreen with pixel dimensions of 480x320.
- 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with 512 MB RAM.
- 4 GB internal storage, 32 GB microSD support.
- 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 0.3 megapixel front camera.
- GPRS, EDGE, 3G (HSDPA 7.2 Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP.
- FM radio with recording, No HDMI.
- GPS (with A-GPS).
- 1500 mAh rechargeable battery.
Having taken a look at the specifications, it is easy to deduce that both the devices have been made to target the mid-range consumer segment. The A30 has a fast CPU, but the 512 MB of RAM is simply insufficient for ICS to run well. The 4 GB of internal storage doesn't help things either. The A20, even with the older Gingerbread may perform even worse with just 256 Mb of RAM and a paltry 512 MB of internal storage. Just including additional RAM would have made things a lot easier. With the current specs, these handsets may find it hard to sell.
